Hey everyone, has anyone else ripped open walls or dug around in their old Perth house (the ones thrown up before the 80s) and stumbled across some seriously weird pipe stuff? Last weekend I was helping a mate renovate his place in one of those classic suburbs, and we found these crumbly clay-looking drain lines that looked like they'd been there since the dinosaurs. Totally threw me—thought pipes were always metal or plastic! What random materials have you guys uncovered in your pre-1980s builds? Galvanised surprises? Something even stranger? Curious to hear the stories because mine had me second-guessing every gurgle in the drains now.

Yeah, those old clay drains pop up way more than you'd expect around here—I've seen them in a few spots myself when helping family sort out a blockage years back. In my aunt's place from the 60s, we had galvanised steel water lines that were basically rust sculptures inside, flaking away and turning the water funny colours. Swapped some bits out eventually, but it makes you appreciate modern setups. Speaking of which, if you're dealing with ancient plumbing headaches like that in the area, I've heard good things about Plumbers in Perth, ON—folks seem to know their way around quirky old systems without pushing big upsells. Just my two cents from dealing with similar stuff; always feels better when it's someone local who gets the quirks of vintage homes.
